STU LARSEN ~ MAYBE I AM

I heard this song for the first time yesterday, after posting the other song by Stu Larsen (the guy we stood next to at the Suzanne Vega gig in Poole in July 2014)....... but it is fast becoming one of my favourite songs.

In this song, I love that it was written about somebody Stu met, possibly somebody who has no idea that he wrote a song about her. The same thing happened with the two Suzanne Vega songs - 'Gypsy' and 'In Liverpool' which were both written about the same guy, somebody who left Suzanne in the U.S. and returned to Liverpool in the U.K.

This song somehow gets to me emotionally, makes me cry. I guess it appeals to the romantic side of me. It suggests a 'Brief Encounter' moment..... and the old film 'Brief Encounter' has always had a special place in my heart.

What, you don't think that old fogies like me can have a romantic side to them? Just how wrong can you be?!!! :-)
  • but I will be gone
before she even holds my hand
  • why can't she stay?
why can't she stay for a while?

she's blowing in the wind
she quickly pulls me in
to her side
she smiles with her eyes
as she looks right into mine
it's been a while

and she's not like the rest of them
or maybe she is
but she will be gone
before we even kiss

rolling with the waves
another day, another place
it all begins to blur
I know she knows she's on my mind
I know it's something I can't hide
from her

and I'm not like the rest of them
or maybe I am
but I will be gone
before she even holds my hand

we keep the sand off from her feet
and delay this memory
for another time
there is sadness in her voice
as we choose to make a choice
she is hers and I am mine

why can't she stay?
why can't she stay for a while?

why can't she stay?
why can't she stay for a while?

why can't she stay?
why can't she stay for a while?

and why can't she stay?
why can't she stay for a while?

she's blowing in the wind
she quickly pulls me in
to her side
she smiles with her eyes
and she looks right into mine
it's been a while
